34,000 m²
Glasgow

Scottish Power’s new headquarters on St. Vincent Street is the largest office building to be constructed in Glasgow in the last 25 years. The fourteen-storey building occupies the full footprint of the site and offers the most efficient floor plan possible, while maximizing the potential for future flexibility. A simple diagram of two linear east/west office blocks of varying storey heights was devised, with a glazed access atrium lit from above and service cores arranged between them.

The building offers:

  • A pleasant, safe and modern working environment for staff.
  • Social facilities: a 280-seat auditorium, meeting areas, staff restaurant, fitness center, occupational health and wellness facilities, as well as subway parking spaces.
  • High-quality external and internal materials, in line with Iberdrola’s corporate guidelines.
  • Responsiveness to improved technological, communication and IT capabilities.
  • Incorporation of a Tier III data center to house centralized IT functions.
  • Inclusion of an alarm receiving center for ScottishPower as a whole.
  • In an urban context, the building occupied a previously derelict site, improving the perception of the city from the highway.
  • The building has become a prominent feature of the Glasgow streetscape and is easily recognizable.

The elegant colonnade surrounding the building protects pedestrians from the inclement Scottish weather and frees up first floor space which is transferred to the upper floors maximizing its value. The building was constructed using a prefabricated concrete system which allowed for shorter construction times and reduced the carbon footprint of the project. It is BREEAM Very Good certified.
