Ortiz.León Arquitectos received the “Sustainability” Award from AEDAS Homes for Escalonia III

Located in Madrid, overlooking El Pardo, it integrates with its surroundings and brings nature closer to its residents: the building takes advantage of natural and renewable resources.

This residential project located in Madrid overlooking El Pardo, integrates with its surroundings and brings nature closer to its residents: the building takes advantage of natural and renewable resources of water and energy to cover part of its efficient and reduced consumption. The homes have the latest eco-innovation measures.

Sustainability provides wellness and health with underfloor heating and cooling, healthy mobility (nearby public transportation, pre-installation of charging points for vehicles, bike racks in garage and workshop and laundry room), temperature control by rooms, air quality (cross ventilation and materials and finishes with low emission of chemical pollutants), natural lighting and sound insulation.

Ecology with urban vegetable gardens on roofs with rainwater irrigation, green spaces with native vegetation on roofs, facades, vegetable terraces, and in urbanization; clean point and community composting from pruning waste to fertilize the vegetable gardens, environmental footprint and analysis of the building’s Life Cycle.

Energy and water efficiency: Nearly Zero Consumption Building: with active measures (geothermal, photovoltaic, heat pump, underfloor heating, heat recovery, low consumption lighting) and passive measures (ventilated facade, interior distribution orientation, green roof, protection against solar radiation), efficient windows with double glazing, double-flow ventilation with heat recovery, rainwater harvesting, intelligent lighting, efficient irrigation.

Smart-APP (control of facilities, accesses, motorized blinds in mobile app), Geothermal: renewable, free and inexhaustible energy source that saves up to 70% of energy consumption; photovoltaic self-consumption: takes advantage of solar renewable energy to produce electricity and minimize consumption of air conditioning and common areas.

This was the first year in which the “AEDAS Homes Architecture Awards” were presented in three different categories: Ortiz León Arquitectos in the “Sustainability” category, Aybar Mateos Arquitectos and Borrell Jover Arquitectura in “Industrialized Systems” and Ingennus in “Architecture and City”. The categories of these three awards show the concerns of the sector and highlight the importance of the relationship between the different parties involved in the projects.
